So you have heard the term Feng Shui and are curious about it but on the other hand you may be a bit wary about getting too weird with decorating your house. It's not just about putting furniture in a certain direction, but much just seems like common sense. |

Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese tradition based on the life force of chi (pronounced chee). Chi is the energy that moves through our bodies, a life force, if you will. Feng shui is arranging our surroundings to promote the flow of chi around us. It’s been practiced for thousands of years in China
I don’t think chi is anything that is a strange feeling or spirit, I think with a little imagination you can sense this flow. When things are flowing you naturally feel
better, when there is a block you can certainly tell even if you can’t always put
your finger on why you feel that way.
Here are some simple common sense ideas you can do that will increase the Chi flow in your dining room.
1. Get rid of clutter. I suppose you don’t have to be a Feng shui master to think of this one, but it is a reminder that you shouldn't’t just put up with messy things but it can really put a damper on the way that life and energy flow at meal times together.
2. On the same note play around with less. If you think you may have too much furniture , remove some for awhile. empty space helps the chi move.
Rounded corners on furniture has a circular flowing feel to it. This can help the
flow of chi.
3. It is suggested that there be an even number of chairs. an Odd chair can make a person feel left out.
4. If the room is small and you feel crowded, don’t let that dampen your chi. Add some mirrors. This will reflect chi and energy. It will reflect all the positive things in the dining room, including the nice food, which can give the feeling of abundance. It will also reflect the clutter and unfinished projects if they are lying around in the dining room.
5. A chandelier above the table is said to be a very positive thing. Especially a crystal one, as this will reflect good energy.
6. Time is said to be a critical element in Feng Shui décor. Since the evening meal should be a restful one, keep the clocks or calendars out of view. Pictures of the past can often be a downer and bring sadness to a relaxing situation.
7. Nice china and silverware or platters that show wealth, and beauty help the flow of chi.
These are just a few things to get the chi flowing in your imagination as to how to create relaxation and good togetherness while you dine. There is so much more to learn about this topic that in the future we will focus on individual aspects of the dining room.
