Making your own
Vanilla Sugar

Some recipes call for putting a vanilla bean
in sugar and letting it sit. This will impart some
vanilla flavor but it takes a long time.
This recipe infuses it right away so it is ready to
use.

I use either Turbinado or Organic whole sugar, besides the organic nature it just TASTES better. You can use white sugar though.

Ingredientes:

2 cups sugar
3-4 vanilla beans

Snip the Vanilla Beans into 1 inch pieces with scissors

Place the sugar and vanilla beans into a food processor, and process for 1 minute cycles 2 - 3 times.

Here is how it looks .There will still be some of the husk pieces left.

Sift the vanilla sugar to get the large chunks out.

Here is our nice vanilla sugar ready to use. It does get better in time as it sits but you can use it right away.

Don't throw these away. You can dry them and grind them for vanilla powder.

I am drying these in a pie pan in an oven that I just warm and then turn off and leave overnight.
