Rouladen

This is a favorite all over the world.
Rouladen is a more of a style than an exact recipe.
Roulade is a term all over Europe for a rolled cooked food
that is stuffed with a filling. You can have a chicken roulade, as well as a pork or salmon roulade.

My grandmother made it with beef and filled it with dill pickle spears, bacon, onion and mustard.
This is then browned and braised in a wine gravy till tender.
Once you have tasted this dish you will never forget the wonderful flavor that the pickle and bacon filling give it.

Go here to learn how to make
Rouladen
with step by step pictures.

Berliner Leber

Here is a wonderful version of Liver and Onions, done with apple slices. donated by Sylvia Norris

Crock pot Sauerbraten

Here is a nice version of this dish that is done conveniently in a crock pot.

Donated by Barb Rokitka

Potato Pancakes

This is a family recipe of Susan Miller, they are served with jelly instead of the usual applesauce and sour cream. These pancakes are one of the wonderful memories of her youth, and makes them often to this day.

Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Fritters

This is a neat recipe that is made from a whole slice of apple dipped in a fluffy batter. I look forward to making these for all kinds of brunches in the future. This is a recipe from the midwest donated by Sylvia Norris.

Angel Wings

This is a brilliant recipe from Carol Kupser that shows a creative twist on simple fried dough cruller. When you make a slit in the dough and pull one end through, it looks like a set of angel wings when fried and dusted with powdered sugar.

Recipe Requests

Hi. I enjoy reading and trying your recipes. I have a friend that is looking for a potato dish that uses fried bread cubes. I've seen recipes for those, made into balls and fried in butter, but he insists that his mother made them just as mashed potatoes in a large bowl, with the fried bread in it. Have you ever heard of this? And do you have a recipe, if so?

Dear Stephen,

I would like to know if anyone has a good recipe for "Tortenboden", and also where the baking pan can be purchased. Most of the flan pans I have seen on the have fluted sides, but would prefer to have straight sided ones.

I think a few of these base cakes in the freezer would be very convenient to have on hand.

Many thanks for your Wonderful Recipes, Newsletters, and Friends who so generously share their recipes!!
