This can be made into a sheet cake or ...

Ingredients;

5 eggs beaten
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening or lard
2 cups thick sour cream
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 cup baking ammonia
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsps. vanilla
about 8 cups of flour for a soft dough

Beat eggs well, Then beat in the sugar.

Add sour cream and melted shortening.

Sift ammonia over this and stir .

Mix in your dry ingredients; flour, baking powder baking soda and salt. Roll out small portions to about 1/4 inch thick. Bake in pie plates.. Prick slightly with a fork..

*It is very important to make sure you roll it out thin. This way the ammonia bakes out.


To make crumbly topping:
Bake one kucha This will become your topping.
Crumble fine and add 1 cup sugar 1 tsp cinnamon and a pinch or two of ground anise (anise is optional) but I always use it.


To bake remaining kuchen brush each one slightly with milk just to barely dampen. Sprinkle with crumbs.
and bake to golden tan.. 375 to 350 depending on altitude and about 15 to 20 mins depending on your oven.
