The History of the French Dip Sandwich

It seems that there is a discrepancy in the way that the French Dip sandwich was created.
Here are two sites that seem to disagree with each other.

My purpose in this study is to find out what techniques make the best French Dip sandwich. How down the years since about 1908 or 1918 there must be some neat things that make the French dip from good to glorious.

The consensus is that it was discovered in Los Angeles area.

Two restaurants claim to be the originator . Cole's Buffet , and Philipe's the Original

Philipe dunks the whole sandwich in the broth , offering it single or double dipped.
I don't know how Cole's Buffet prepares their French Dip, perhaps I think I will call them and ask.

I find that a good au jus powder is fine to use. I like the flavor of onion added to the broth.

For the meat I like it to be very thin sliced and cooked about medium well ...and then dunked in the broth ....then put on toasted crusty french roll.

More to come....
