Years ago when I was in grade school, I'd walk home with my best friend who was German. Very often when we would arrive at her house, her mother would take from the oven a sweet bread that I remember to be oval and about 2" tall. It had white sugar sprinkled on the top. She would serve it with just a bit of butter. It was sooo good. Does this recipe description ring a bell to anyone. Thank you . . . Cheyenne

As a boy we ate a breakfast meat that was referred to as "breakfast sausage". It was made in large batches and included oatmeal as a part of the recipe. I am not sure if it was beef or pork or a mixture. It was ground with the oatmeal and had a somewhat mushy texture. It was frozen (most often in jars) after it had been cooked. We then reheated it in a frying pan with a tiny bit of water. It was a somewhat brownish gray in color. I ate it a fork full at a time placing it on buttered bread. Some people would pour a maple syrup on it. Seems to me alspice, what ever that is, was also in the recipe. I grew up in a community that was german and danish but think the recipe was german in origin

My grandmother passed away a few weeks ago and I am trying to locate two recipes that she made the first includes : potatoes (shredded) mixed with flour (and other ingredients) rolled into small oblong potatoes- cooked with sauerkraut and pork. I think the potatoes were boiled. The name she used to call them were pigtails but I know that probably isn't the real name. Does anyone know of a German recipe like this? Also I am looking for the recipe for something that is called (Cannadel, Cannadle) not sure of the spelling. It is also a potatoe dish made with breadcrumbs rolled into big potato balls and served with a dark gravy. I would really appreciate if anyone knows any recipes close to this.
